We proudly produce our bags in Kolkata, the capital of India’s West Bengal state and the epicentre of the world’s jute industry. Our production partner is a relatively small and long-standing and close-knit family business, run with passion and expertise by a father and his three sons.

Based on our shared social values and environmental principles, we have established an open, honest, and trusting relationship. Accredited with numerous certifications, such as SA8000, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 9001:2015 and OHSAS 180001, our partner also supports a local charity project which works to provide free medical treatment to those in need.

Witnessing their operation first-hand on several visits, we were impressed by their high-standard practices. The SA8000 certification requires them to be independently audited every six months by a third party, to ensure that they maintain social compliance in the following areas:

• No child or forced labour
• A safe and healthy workplace
• No discrimination of gender, race, sexuality, age, religion, caste, disability, etc..
• Freedom for workers to join unions
• Adherence to limited working hours
• Fair wages

Other certifications include ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 9001:2015, which cover all aspects of the company’s quality and environmental management systems. The purpose is to align environmental objectives with quality policies and to reduce their overall environmental impact. Additionally, through their compliance of the OHSAS 18001 standard, our supplier demonstrates that they have a robust system in place for occupational health and safety. All the above mentioned certifications require an independent audit once a year.
